Illinois residents may be interested to learn that after prolonged negotiations Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have reached a resolution in their divorce. The couple initially separated in Nov. 2011, and Kutcher filed for divorce on Dec. 21, 2012.
The primary sticking point in this high asset divorce was how much Kutcher should pay Moore, who is wealthy in her own right. The "Two and a Half Men" star is one of the highest paid television actors and will reportedly earn $24 million during 2013 from the show. However, his current paycheck is significantly more than what the 35-year-old star earned when the couple separated. Moore had claimed that she introduced Kutcher to several contacts that assisted him with investments in some technology start-up companies and that as a result, she was entitled to a payment of $25 million to reflect her contribution.
The couple's estimated wealth is more than $300 million. Of that, approximately $150 million is reported to belong to Moore. Despite her high net worth, the actress initially sought spousal support due to the fact that Kutcher was alleged to have been unfaithful during the marriage. Sources say that this claim was waived in the final resolution. However, Kutcher is reported to have been more generous than the law would have required when dividing the marital property. Although neither party has publicly commented they are both said to be satisfied with the agreement.
One thing that a family law attorney may be able to do to assist with a divorce is attempt to negotiate a settlement agreement to narrow the disputed issues. If the parties can agree on some issues, including spousal support and property division, it can make the entire process easier.
