Divorced mothers aren't the only ones who have trouble securing payments from their ex-spouses. A Rockford man who has custody of his 10-year-old daughter is in the midst of attempting to secure $30,000 in back child support payments from the child's mother. The man has fought the legal system for nearly three years to receive back pay from the mother to support his daughter, but the man indicates that the odds are stacked against him and that his legal team is actually offering the woman advice.
The man says that the Illinois legal system still thinks in traditional terms, meaning that women should have custody of children and receive support payments from the father. He contends that even the state's attorney's office gives that impression and that if the situation were reversed, i.e., he was skipping out on payments, he would not be given the same consideration.
The mother has moved to Florida, allegedly to avoid making child support payments. The girl's father indicates that he is not the only single man raising a child and asking for support payments. He has stated that he wants to stand up for his rights and speak up for all men who have not received proper child support fro the mother of their children.
All custodial parents have the right to receive child support payments to meet their children's needs. The situation faced by the Rockford man illustrates the need for single fathers to hire a competent Illinois attorney who may be able to help them obtain delinquent payments and rectify other issues like child custody, medical issues and other needs that may arise after parents of children split up.
