Illinois residents may be interested in the details surrounding the divorce between basketball star Dwayne Wade and his ex-wife. Although the 31-year-old man plays ball in another state, the Chicago courts have scheduled a trial to determine the distribution of marital assets in July.
In papers recently made public, it was revealed that Wade pays his ex-wife's living expenses in the amount of approximately $10,000 per month, plus an additional $25,000 per month in spousal support. It was not stated whether there is a time limit on these payments. Wade also paid his ex-wife a lump sum of $1 million when the divorce judgment was entered. There are rumors that this amount is small change compared to the amount that Wade's ex-wife is reportedly seeking as part of the asset distribution.
The divorce was finalized in 2012, but issues remain between the spouses. Wade's ex-wife has gone back to court seeking additional time with the couple's two children. The father was granted sole custody of their two sons, and the mother received visitation every other weekend. The mother claims that Wade is not respecting the custody order because her older son travels to basketball games in other cities, leaving her unable to spend time with him. Wade's attorney declined to comment on the case.
When spouses divorce, spousal support is one of the most contentious issues. A local attorney can often help with negotiations. Where agreement is not possible, having an attorney who knows how to navigate the court system assist in filing papers and arguing the case may help make the divorce process less complicated.
