Deion Sanders wins child custody battle

The long-running custody battle between former NFL star Deion Sanders and his wife resulted in a jury decision that awarded primary physical custody of two sons to the father. The results of the child custody case included a decision that mother and father will share custody of their daughter.

The decision came about as the result of a side issue regarding primary physical custody of the children and does not affect child support or other divorce issues. Attorneys for the children's mother claimed that the football veteran did not have the parenting skills to raise the children alone. Lawyers for Mr. Sanders claimed that the mother was simply vindictive and had tried to poison the children against their father.

Sanders took the stand during the trial to answer questions about his decision to remove the children from counseling as well as the status of communication between husband and wife. He claimed that he put a stop to the counseling because his wife was using it as a way to get information about the children. His estranged wife described him as an "absent father" who embarrassed his children publicly and accused him of abuse, charges he denies.

Child custody battles are often emotional and can lead to serious disagreements between the parties. Some parents find that retaining a family law attorney helps to ease the transition from family life into single parenting for both parents and children. An Illinois attorney may be able to negotiate a fair custody and child support agreement with which both parties can comply.
